I'm interning as a marriage and family therapist. I found My Brain is a Home to be a terrific tool to use when I am counselling children.
I really love the concept of these books and it’s brilliant there’s a such a well thought out resource for children to relate to. Unfortunately it didn’t quite work in the way I’d hoped for my child as she is very sensitive and squeamish, so the images of the brain were too much for her. This is something I’m working on with her, but given the nature of the subject, I think this is something worth thinking about if your child has specific sensory sensitivities. I have read the book to my child without showing her the pictures and I love how informative it is, but I feel this distracts a little the whole point of the book!
Such a beautiful book. Such helpful messages for children. I wish I'd known about my brain as a child!
I recently purchased the initial brain book, my brain is a home and found the content of the story outstanding! As a kindergarten teacher, I wanted to find a book series that recognises and supports children to develop easy skills for problem-solving. The problem scale was an easy way for them to identify how small to how large some problems can be and how they can be easily resolved. The children mostly enjoyed brainstorming through the problem scale, there was lots of interesting ideas.! I’m looking to purchase the remainder of the brain book series!
Thank you for giving me this opportunity for feedback. I found the book really great. Simple and when I read it for the 4th time I used a sample small brain I have and had marked it where the book was. This created dialogue and further understanding for the young child. As a therapist I've tried many ways to reexplain this and so far, this is the simplest way of explaining the brain and it allowed me to give as much info as they needed to know.
